Honestly I never really felt like they even manage to sound like that, usually reverb creates the sound of space - just as yelling into a real cavern would do. Personally I think its just the same mentality as the br00tal tards, a race to the bottom for "extremity" that leads whatever process to being a shallow gimmick.

Do you mean the noise comes from the way they play? Or that it is more tied to pedals and such, rather than being added in as an after effect in fruity loops, like I assume these bands are using with the level of quality these albums possess.

Abigor at least might fly over most people, but Gorguts is a great example of cringe inducing names to say outloud IRL. Both Luc and Hasjarl really should have changed the name after they left their simple traditional roots. Personally I really don't want anyone thinking I have any relation to people who listen to Cannibal Corpse or Cradle of Filth. Simple one words like Thorns or Mayhem are fine, unknowable names like Jute Gyte or Ehnahre are also good.
