The point is that you shouldn't be using Spotify. If you gave a shit about music in the first place, instead of just yourself, then you would already realize this.

Look I really do get it, Spotify sucks. But what does this achieve? Even if all the Gizz fans cancel their subscriptions and move elsewhere it won’t affect Spotify one bit. I know I sound spoiled, but I’ve put years into making playlists and I enjoy looking up my stats on stats.fm.

On a practical level it really is going to make things difficult for me and many others too. Yes I love my playlists and stats but really I’d be happy to move to another platform. Problem is I’m on a family plan. My choices are cancel and also make my Mum, Dad, fiancée and friend all lost their access too or pay for two subscriptions which to be honest I can’t really afford right now.

On top of this I’m getting married in 6 weeks. Many Gizz songs were in our playlists and now we can’t use them. Our venue staff play our music by sharing our Spotify playlists to them, we have no choice in using another platform.

I love Gizz and their stance on politics, as much as this annoys me I still think it’s cool they’re willing to do harsh things like this, but really this only hurts the fans. For some it won’t be a big deal, cancel one subscription, start another. But for many others, like myself, it’s not so simple.

I'm a huge fan of KG's music but this feels a lot like an uninformed kneejerk reaction to seeing a headline, or probably worse, a bunch of sycophants screeching about it in some internet echochamber. Like others have mentioned a lot of big tech companies invest in or straight up work in military tech already, probably using AI at this point too. If we stopped developing AI stuff for wartime that's not gonna make hostile nations suddenly stop working on it. This whole thing screams virtue signalling but it might get me to quit using Spotify anyways so I don't have to rely on streaming platforms that can revoke access to my files.
