>>127179306Whats the debate? the obvious answer is don't listen to either.
>>127179306Human. Everything after that is just ok imo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu4KFawuODA
>>127179324You have to listen to them both. You may not like them, which is fair, but if you don't even know the classics, then why should anyone take your opinion on metal seriously, when it's this uninformed? You'll be jacking off some mediocre generic album because you think it does cool things, and you wouldn't even realize that the "cool" things it does are completely unoriginal and not noteworthy in the slightest.
Honestly I can't wait till the next Artificial Brain release, I always liked their guitar work, but the monotonous toilet vocals killed every album. The new vocalist is really uninspiring and kinda mid, but still obviously even boring mid vocals are much better than the previous ones.
Personally I think the band should just be instrumental since the new vocalist isn't really worth listening to, but the eternal forced drum-guitar-vocal rockslop setup will never die.
We need to clone NSK and have him do vocal duty on every single album ever made.
>>127179306Human is better
Symbolic is great, even if we already perceive Chuck Schuldiner wasn't gonna be able to restrain himself much longer, and was gonna release something so gay (the sound of perseverance) it was gonna give him "cancer" and kill him
which should be a lesson to everyone, imho

NSBM reigns supreme. In a world populated by fags.
>>127179383Death's problem is a total lack of ferocity, there is no forward momentum, yet also there is no focus on atmosphere, while also having no dynamic build ups or tension/release. OSDM is usually like that, just a stream of incoherent riff salad with incoherent rocknroll solos, and the "progressive" aspect is just some widdlys on da bass or fills for da drumz. Only problem is that Death doesn't even have the muscle that OSDM usually has, its completely limp, and because of being OSDM the music itself sucks too.
Would rather listen to Incantation, Immolation, Deicide, Sinster, Autopsy, Obituary, and Asphyx.

>>127179465>>127179620I like Hate, especially that one track Awaiting the Absu, imagine an OSDM band actually having the mindset to have some dynamic build ups, creating an actual song. Very rare stuff lmao. They have the issue of sometimes having songs with generic thrashy sections or ebin br00tal slamz, but those are relatively rare. Also they didn't have Scott Burns shitting up the production like all the Florida bands did.
While this song below starts off in a terrible spot with rhythmic br00tal breakdown slamz shite, at 1:58 they have a torrent of viciousness right into a more melodic bit, which are the parts of this band I can appreciate.

>>127180765atmospheric black metal is not ambient. blastbeats create a trancelike atmosphere. varg has spoken of this.
>>127180826No way, too much reverb over breathy held notes, its boring, yet fails to even be background music because of the blasts demanding your attention. This band is also dumb enough to have a shreddy solo in the first track just in case you almost felt some sort of atmosphere.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyOGgiimIaE
>>127180875All "atmospheric" music is merely a push toward ambience, why do you think ambient pieces are thrown into the beginning of an album to set the atmosphere of the album? Atmosphere = ambient.
Varg would have benefited immensely from the removal of all drums on his albums as proven by the video I posted before. "Trancelike" conditions are just repetitions, why do you think he put a 25 minute long repetition of a single synth phrase on Filosofem? Blast beats are obnoxious noise that are antithetical to atmosphere and ambience.

How are Cancer and Pestilence live? They're touring over here in LatAm.
Hectare, I would actually get the SM57 over the 58. I think its slightly brighter sound befits metal vocals. Plus it's the classic mic for guitar, snares, all sorts of things. But both are good.

Pretty damn advanced for '88
The reason DsO makes better music is because Hasjarl tests all his music on an unplugged guitar by itself, and its why you can play DsO on piano and have it not be an embarrassment beyond the obvious repetitions.
>>127181204Then why does DsO do fine without drums despite having a drummer that would wipe the floor with any OSDM band ever?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW6sjQNKCRY
Face reality, OSDM is a joke, it cannot stand the drumless test, the riffs are nonsense garbage, the "songs" has no coherent beginning middle or end, there is nothing connecting anything they write besides a senseless desire to shit out more power chord slop.
>>127181207Covenant being one of the most successful DM albums boggles my mind. Rapture opens with a boring ass nonriff. It just sounds like the shit that's playing in the background at a rock/metal themed tattoo parlor in 2004. Other bands at the time like Monster, Death, Cancer, Martyr etc made much more headbangabe stuff imo.
>>127181170Altars of Madness is on another level compared to the rest of the discog though
>>127181270Nocturnus was the first good death metal band.
>>127181315sure, but it's still not all that interesting.
There are like 5 good death metal bands and Morbid Angel are one of them. Trey is probably the most genius riffcrafter that ever lived. Every song is like a conjuration ritual of some great Lovecraftian entity. The way he combines complexity with simplicity, the way the riffs develop subtlety, shift, winding mazelike in their construction, but never getting lost. It's very dynamic songwriting. Not even to mention the drumming of Pete Sandoval, which is a study in itself.

Morbid Angel is the only Death Metal band.
>>127181337Chapel of Ghouls is the only good track, and its because it was written back when Mike Browning was there. MB might be on a technical level a very poor vocalist and player, but he knew how to craft songs.
>>127181356I would post something from FAS or Synarchy, but the only FAS piano cover has drums and Synarchy hasn't been covered at all.

I still think the snare drum should be removed from drumkits, would force drummers to learn how to be a lot more interesting. Blast beats are a crutch for hacks, just filler for when you don't know what else to do with yourself.

https://youtu.be/cB6uahboRhU?t=821
One part I like about the drumming from DsO is the hi-hat usage, reminds me of jazz drummers, there is a fantastic part in Katechon that is similar. Honestly I think hi-hats have a lot more personality to them, you can be much more playful and unique than with a snare.
https://youtu.be/cB6uahboRhU?t=1440
Again, you have a whole kit, there is more than a snare to hit.

>>127181963I find 6-7 khz accentuates the rasp in a harsh vocal, making it sound more textured and defined. 2-3 khz sounds more nasal to me, and 4-5 khz (the 'presence' range) is very throaty but can be nasty on some voices. Ofc you can EQ either mic to sound good with your voice. I like very bright mics for metal vocals, and tend to prefer condensers for their extended high end. The downside being your sibilants ("s" and "t" sounds) will be louder.

>>127182981>is a band from a genre inspired by horror movies taking it's name from a well known horror movie?...
>>127183044No, I'm not a zoomer
>>127183044yeah if the music is intense
>>127183044Usually not, but I am often in a mental state where albums that are 60-90 minutes are a bit much unless I'm listening in the backgroudn while takign care of menial tasks or cooking or something
>>127183044No. If anything, more commonly I have the opposite problem - I want to listen to just one song but end up listening to the whole album. Whatever That Hurts and Wildhoney are like this every time, since each song flows into the next one.

>>127183044No, but I put off listening to an album during the day if I think I'm going to be interrupted for more than a couple minutes and have the flow of the album completely broken
>>127182767Kaevum - Goyimblood
>>127183190Lol, my style of vocals wouldn't really work for that, but more importantly is that I need a popular song so there is a vocal-less track to go over.
Ok so there's disneycore, but is there Watership Down metal?
>>127183205Something off Burzum s/t so we can have the best version.

>>127183044How old are you?
how can you tell if an album is using a drum machine?
>>12718362738, baId, and beautiful
>>127183869Easiest way is the snare, if it sounds really repetitive, exact, and overly precise - then its probably a machine.
>>127183044Depends on how good the album is

Pretty nice, somewhat melodic black metal that reminds me of Dark Funeral's debut, or a less epic version of Setherial's
