question for the artists of this board
ive been wanting to start making music (ambient drone) using casettes and other hardware for a while now but i have not actually bought anything because im scared that i'll give up too easily or lose motivation. the whole thing does interest me a lot but i just cant get myself to start. if you make music as a hobby, how did you start?

do i just buy everything and see how it goes? im not at all intersted in DAWs sadly so its not really possible for me to do a test run sadly...

any tips?

Either do it or don’t. Talking about it isn’t doing it

Bruh, I just came from a noise show with artists almost exclusively using only old tape decks, with a maybe an effect pedal or two and some small cheap-ish mixer board. The pedals and mixer can be used for a lot of other stuff and the tape equipment is basically thrift store/flea market electronics: The shittier it is the more "character" it will give your sound.
We're not talking about a substantial investment here.

I've recorded over 300 demo tapes of experimental music. Git to it!
