More often than not the verse is completely compositionally disconnected from the chorus and both are completely disconnected from the bridge. Maybe an intro that just plays the melody from the chorus or the chord progression is shared between verse and chorus (even lazier). There is no building on established material or any real musical fabric holding it together, its just shit stitched together with no continuity. It doesn't go anywhere either, the end of the song often sounds completely identical to the beginning and it never feels like a complete expierence to listen to.
Like even old broadway hits still have more creative songwriting than most rock bands and those are in 32 bar form which is far simpler of a structure than verse chorus, why is rock music so incredibly lazy?
Mahler.
