Why are rock songs so stitched together?
More often than not the verse is completely compositionally disconnected from the chorus and both are completely disconnected from the bridge. Maybe an intro that just plays the melody from the chorus or the chord progression is shared between verse and chorus (even lazier). There is no building on established material or any real musical fabric holding it together, its just shit stitched together with no continuity. It doesn't go anywhere either, the end of the song often sounds completely identical to the beginning and it never feels like a complete expierence to listen to.

Like even old broadway hits still have more creative songwriting than most rock bands and those are in 32 bar form which is far simpler of a structure than verse chorus, why is rock music so incredibly lazy?

Mahler.

this is a good thread.
>why is rock music so incredibly lazy?
because its cemented on tribal african drum slapping. no matter how you try to embellish it, it is what it is. prog tried to give rock some semblance of narrative but you get circus shit like bohemian rhapsody or the abbey road medley.

why shouldnt they be? you write as if its a given or objective fact that thematic continuity and development is required or superior but thats a misconception, its a purely subjective opinion. one might ask the question why are you incapable of riding the changes between verse, chorus and bridge? such flexibility in composition, and crucially, in the appreciative abilities of the listener, must necessarily lead to freedom from rigid forms and greater expression in some regards. insisting that music always conform to pre-existing standard practices is limiting and backward-looking.

Life is stitched together. A life isn't a carefully plotted narrative with interwoven themes, it's a mess of semi-random events and longueurs that can only be understood in retrospect, if then. Rock was an efflorescence of culture that tried to capture that, a peek into every day lives that novels, plays, symphonies could never really depict. And that is exactly why it became so popular, it spoke to people and their messy, insufficient, momentary lives.

Can you give an example of a rock song and a Broadway hit to illustrate your point?

This is like saying that story structure does not need characters or a consistent plot and can be just a bunch of moments stitched together. Just because music is a medium not taken seriously enough and is filled with relativist retards like you doesn't mean it's true. Hmpf!

Prog is not good either and suffers from the same problem over a larger span of time. Tarkus is literally a bunch of disconnected shit stitched together. As are most long songs in pr*g rock

Absolutely and certainly hate everything in rock that I have heard. Even if I wanted to listen to lesser music I would prefer to spend that time listening to Mahler!

Who cares. Shit that is predictable and the same stupid annoying formula like pop music is just so boring and uninteresting. I dont want to hear the same verse chorus verse nonsense. Zoomers like shit really gay and sounding exactly the same over and over and never get tired of it

Circus music is great too. You guys are just boring fucks with garbage taste. Id rather have you eat a bullet than listen to kpop

Life is a series of reactions from the moment you step out of the womb. Causality dictates that everything you do is a product of that which happened before. Even if something supposedly random happens, the reason you expierenced it is the series of choices that lead to that particular point in time

Retard fat zoomer manlet larping as girl-bread… stop trying to drop gnawledge because you don’t have any.

Musicals are significantly more repetitive because they have to actually create the sounds live sometimes only with the performers voices. Whereas on albums artists can use something called “production” to differentiate parts of the song.

The usual thing is to make the instruments more lush and layered as the song progresses.

Lot of rock singers will put more effort into the vocals as the song progresses.
