>Sonrisa Salvaje (literally "Wild Smile") is the Spanish-language version of Eat 'Em and Smile. According to the Van Halen Encyclopedia, the idea to re-record the album in Spanish was the idea of bassist Billy Sheehan, who had read an article in a magazine which reported that over half the Mexican population was between the ages of 18 and 27, a prime record buying market. Roth re-cut all his vocals with the help of a Spanish tutor in the studio. He edited some of risquΓ© lyrics, so as not to offend the more conservative Spanish-speaking population. With the exception of the vocals, the basic music tracks are the same as the Eat 'Em and Smile version, with the only exception being Big Trouble, which ends abruptly as opposed to fading out on the English version.
What the fuck was he thinking? I don't even speak Spanish but I can still tell his pronunciation is shit.

It sounds like he's reading phonetics off a note trying to keep up with the music and barely doing so. Which he probably is. Completely unnatural

OG lineup (Vai/Sheehan/Bissonnette) is off-the-chain awesome.

This album cover is cultural appropriation and very very racist. Without calling him out, and without cancel culture, how would have George Bush prevented 9/11? Censorship is the only way that the state of Texas will remain safe from rapists diddlers mass shooters those weird quiet types at school who listen to Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. Yeah I know who to blame for any reason I'd need to vent, because it's American to do so

Cynical money-grab was cynical?
Surely not.

Steve Vai is the reason I picked up this album in the first place. One of the best guitarists of all time

Yes, is that a problem?

The Steve/Billy combo is straight fire. Vai actually has some better playing on the next album but Billy left.

>Yes, is that a problem?
it is if you want to enjoy life. being a bitter tryhard is bad for the soul

Was there ever a more solid backing band in rock? Each one of these guys is a titan in their own right. The most anybody else could do would be a guitarist here, a drummer there, but never the entire complement. Literal supergroup.

i don't think people give dave credit for actually learning how to sing on the tour either. every live performance for the eat em and smile tour has dave singing significantly better than he did with van halen. not crazy good, but a lot better
>>127312156
frank appreciated both. mothers were all pretty standard musicians but even in the 70s he'd hire people like flo and eddie who couldn't play for shit

Maybe Vinnie Colaiuta, Dominic Miller and David Sancious backing Sting

or the earlier Sting band w/ Darryl Jones, Branford Marsalis, Omar Hakim, Kenny Kirkland.

but yeah there are very few actual supergroups, usually it's very talented musicians but you don't get the sense of them actually coming together as a band the way the early DLR bands did.

You used to have to pay real money for these records. I don't think most buyers were into getting a record just to laugh at how bad it was.

It's cringe today now that most 'cans are ESLs, but back then only 0.0001% of them were and an International Rock Star bothering to at least attempt to sing in their language was a huuuge deal.
