So what jazz albums do people in Japan like then? Because they supposedly do like this one.

people here listen to watanabe, toshiko, hiromi, masabumi kikuchi, keiki matuse and makoto ozone. dumb americans make youtube videos claiming to speak on behalf of what japan like and its annoying and fake

I appreciate that you're Japanese and shared what is actually liked there, I was expecting an American speaking for Japan or something.

I'll check out your reccs then, Scenery was the only Jap jazz album I had as most of my other Japanese music was just Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haroumi Hosono. Other reccs/specific albums would be welcome though.

Based, thank you. I'll write these down and see if I can find them sometime. Anything else from the 70s and onward maybe? Audio quality starts to really suffer before then from what I've heard so far.

I'm into Hiromi, but none of the algorithm lovers will be into Hiromi. And I found her because I was in my Western fusion phase. She works with some legendary fusion players.

To say I'm a fan is a stretch, I'd only heard that one album and I didn't have strong feelings about it. I'm pretty open to anything really so I'm willing to try whatever you post.

So far, pretty good. I'd be very interested in something a bit slower however with more piano emphasis, but this is still good.

Based, I'll take a look.

Unfortunately that's the slowest song on the album so maybe not a good choice after all, sorry. Japanese jazz isn't really known for being slow.
Anonymous No.127322877
>>127322862
Interesting. Nonetheless, I still like it, I can always find slower stuff from elsewhere and stick with Japanese for more upbeat. I appreciate your posts so far though, I don't like using algorithms or any of that shit for reccs so it's been nice having someone that genuinely gives a shit recommend stuff.

Her albums with Stanley Clarke and Chick Corea are kino, but they are complicated and will filter the fuck out of youtubecore fans who think jazz is nothing but lo-fi cozy vibes.

You're getting confused, both hipsters and tourists love this shit, the main difference is that tourists ONLY listen to jap jazz. A hipster will often at least know about a few Coltrane/Miles albums that aren't the usual suspects.

Again, that is a tourist. "The list could go on" is the prototypical tourist take on jazz. A hipster is knowledgeable, a tourist pretends to be

He means Keiko Matsui, ESL typo probably. A lot of her music wouldn't meet a purist's definition of jazz because of all the new-age influence, but she is popular in Japan for sure.

What part of "albums that aren't the usual suspects" is too complicated to comprehend, do you not understand how massive the complete sessionography of the average jazz musician is. A hipster would at least know of an album like Transition or Live at the Plugged Nickel, a tourist wouldn't.

I don't know who started this weird trend where tourists act like they accomplished some achievement because they found some random jazz album they liked. Is it really that hard for the new generation to discover music online without Spotify or Youtube?
