Hot take - Anathema. Silent Enigma is their best and the songs on Eternity are great, but goddamn do I hate how its recorded and performed, especially Vincent's vocals. Not there yet at all. Might've been great if it sounded like their Judgement era.

According to one of the surviving members, Ian was really into Kraftwerk around the time he died, so it's pretty likely that they would have gone further in that direction had he lived, but not as poppy or as bright as the sound that New Order would end up going with
You can already see that change of direction with Isolation and Love Will Tear Us Apart, both written with Ian

>band is called "Big Country"
>song is called "In a Big Country"
>song is about being in a Big Country

Furthermore, the song states:
> in a big country dreams stay with you
> Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
> Stay alive

an entirely plausible and unobjectionable statement. There's nothing to complain about with this band and they seem to be on the right side of every possible point of contention.

basically the entire song is about being in a big country, and everything about the song (including the band name, and the liberal use of reverb in the song's production) is accurate as far as the experience and overall aesthetic sensation of being in a big country.
