Neil rocking out with Crazy Horse was usually good, but he drank up the punk hype too much for the electric side of this album (besides Powderfinger).

I am a huge Neil Young fan and I agree with this. It's different with Crazy Horse because I think they do have a great sound and are a rare instance where a band is actually enhanced by their limitations, but Neil does go out of his way to surround himself with mundane musicians. The albums of his that he's the least happy with are typically the ones with the best musicians on them, and even, his final assessment of his own projects is never based on the end result but his mood. When he did play with high class musicians, he would order them specifically not to play licks or fills if he could. The drummer on Harvest even said that he basically didn't play drums on that album, Neil did. If you play something interesting, he glares at you with a look that could peel paint off the walls. The dude has issues, but it is what it is.

And it surprises me, many /mu/ teenagers were into his music, like it was not /mu/core, but there was some discussion every time a folk thread pop up.

I still don’t get why everyone focuses so much on Crazy Horse’s musical abilities as some defining trait. They’re not technical wizards but they’re hardly some sloppy teenage garage band either. They’re exactly the mix of primitive and complex that Neil wanted for his songs.

Is it one autist who keeps saying this or are tons of people actually copying each other by repeating this? I've seen this exact opinion being repeated online for fifteen years now. Those three songs are far from his masterpiece. I would almost consider Motion Pictures a weak track.

That is such bullshit. I think it's the people who only like a few things he did who say On the Beach is his best. The fact that everyone says side two specifically proves that they're just saying something that they heard someone else said, because it's really not that good. It's good, but not that good. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is probably his technical best record, although it's not my favorite. My personal favorite record of his is probably Time Fades Away. On the Beach is for people who read music journalism to form their opinions on everything. It's easily the most overrated album he's made.

Only a few tracks match how most people describe this record. It's really not a very dark record at all. It's an escapism record. Maybe there is a sadness in that alone, but this album is not what people describe it as. If you want something dark, listen to Time Fades Away. The bleakness on that album is palpable.

"Time Fades Away. No songs from this album are included here [his greatest hits triple album Decade, that literally included two or three songs from his other albums]. It was recorded on my biggest tour ever, 65 [sic] shows in 90 days. Money hassles among everyone concerned ruined this tour and record for me but I released it anyway so you folks could see what could happen if you lose it for a while."

If you base your taste in music off of what Neil Young says then Everybody's Rockin' is now in your top two favorite Neil Young albums. Have fun saying it's one of his best albums now, since that is now your new opinion regardless of whether or not you actually like it.

Neil Young doesn't assess his albums based on their quality. His favorite albums of his are the ones he enjoyed making and the ones he dislikes are the ones he didn't enjoy making. So you basically have no taste in music and are basing it off of someone else's mood essentially.

time fades away apologists also need to explain why none of the songs were included on the triple greatest hits album, decade, which included multiple songs from almost every other n y album, including lots of obscure stuff.
'neil just fucks with journalists in interviews, that's why he dogs time fades away and hypes others'' doesn't explain why he and record company thought it wise not to include any dogshit song from that album on such an expensive and risky project. that's actual money on the line, which few fuck around about.
but anyway, i'll give that album another chance since it's being hyped by some so much, but i doubt i'll change my mind on it.

I already explained why. Neil Young hates that album because he didn't enjoy the process of making it. He judges his albums not by the end results but by the process. Everybody's Rockin' is one of the worst albums ever made and he considers it one of his best because he enjoyed making it.

I doubt it. The earliest sketches of Powderfinger's lyrics go back to the early/mid 60's, Buffalo Springfield era. Maybe Skynyrd inspired him to finally put it out, but it dates back to some of his earliest songwriting days

He included songs from Harvest because it was his most successful album and excluding songs from it would have been too weird, as well as the fact that he never said he hated it. But you know all this and will say anything just so that you can argue with me.
