Not that different from what a /mu/ top 5 would be. Replace TPAB with Kid A and GKMC with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and you have an accurate representation. Hell, the P4K readers poll result on the best albums of the last 25 years (which /mu/ was 100% responsible for) proves it. Grim.
Anonymous No.127330563 >>127330898
There are three distinct years where the RYM chart became progressively unreliable.

>2006: Illmatic inexplicably rises into the top 25, ahead of Are You Experienced and In A Silent Way
>2011: Loveless is rediscovered by hipsters and becomes the 3rd 90s album to hold its position consistently (others being OKC and ITAOTS)
2018: In Rainbows appears and is astroturfed just ahead of TPAB

And this was all predicated by baffling changes in the bottom half of the chart. Remain In Light and Unknown Pleasures had no business there until the last decade when post-punk was memed back into relevance. It almost makes me feel bad for Lift Yr Skinny Fists, because despite being a pretentious album it's managed to stay unwavering between 15th-18th place.

Also fun fact, Elvis Costello used to be in top 5 for a few months. Not top 10, TOP FUCKING FIVE.

DaZmian Jul 15 2025 5.00 stars
Arguably the best album OAT
The first time I listened to this my reaction was like “This is weird”. Now, I consider this to be a masterpiece. It completely deserves to be in the argument for the best album OAT, let alone for the best Hip-Hop album of all time!
Beats: 5/5
The album blends rap with jazz in a way no other rap album has ever done. The G-Funk on Wesley’s Theory is also beautiful. This album has some of the best beats OAT, no question. If you like west-coast rap and jazz-rap, you will love this.
Lyrics: 5/5
This album mostly talks about the lives of black people in the US. I honestly love the concept, especially when the delivery is top-tier. There are simply sooo many layers to these songs, there is surely something you have missed in your first listen. Examples:
1: Kendrick refers to the devil (Lucifer) as “Lucy”.
2: In the track “How Much A Dollar Cost” Kendrick uses the homeless man as a metaphor, but talks about him as if he was real.
3: In “I” and “U” he impersonates someone that appreciates himself and someone that despises himself.
4: The interview at the end is an interview with 2Pac that took pieces of 2Pac’s interviews and put them together to make it sound like 2Pac is actually talking to Kendrick. There are many more examples I could make.
Features: 5/5
How can’t you love these features? From Rapsody to George Clinton, the list is not really stacked, but the people that are on this record all have at least good features. It’s difficult to choose a “best feature”, are there are at least 3 5/5 feature, but in my opinion, the best feature is Thundercat’s feature, it’s just perfect when combined with George Clinton’s one.
Final rating: 5/5
Though not for complete beginners, a masterpiece. In my opinion the best Hip-Hop album of all time, maybe even the best album of all time.

I don't care about that tho ?, I don't even go to rym, there are other music rating sites, don't get the hype around it. But any of those is thousands of times better than garbage like TPAB whose only claim to glory is DEI bias propping it up, was a total disappointment, didn't live up in the slightest ti the hype, it has no nice melodies, nothing "innovative" that actually sounds good, the only thing it has going for it, according to its retarded fans themselves, is how it "talks about the lives of black people in the hoods", like, I'm sorry you grew up in poverty, but that doesn't make your music good, otherwise Sudan would be the number 1 exporter of talent, Kendrick should have written a poem/book instead of his shitty music. TPAB is by far the most overrated album atp.

First, rap is not music, so those two albums don't belong there.

Secondly, Radiohead is whiny U2 so them having 2 picks among the best ever albums says more about the users of that site being some sad terminally indoors neurotics aged between 30 and 40-something. It's a mere expression of a certain group with certain mental characteristics.

It's the reflection of their collective hugbox that this RYM site is. They built an altar to their collective sadness and stuck Radiohead at the top. Alongside not-music-but-it-makes-me-feel-so-gangsta-despite-being-a-total-beta-irl rap
