I despise Cobain personally but I do not deny how great much of his music was. He was a great artist even though I think he was an obnoxious faggot at the same time that doesn't hold a candle to his idols Sonic Youth (the actual genius innovators, not him).

It's cliche to point it out but there's something about people who can take something so simple/dumb that most people wouldn't think to try and make a song out of and make something really cool out of it. There are countless amateur guitarists who have made riffs like the main one in "Breed" or "About a Girl" but never imagined they had actually made something worth saving and making a song out of.
