Nearly the entire first wave of punk in the UK was a complete waste of time and had nothing of any value associated with it. It was only until Discharge came onto the scene that Punk actually became good.

Punk turned into new wave in the 80s I guess. Hardcore became big underground in NYC and LA.. but then synth pop and metal dominated more. The 90s had a punk come back but more morphing into alt rock or trashy lo fi rock. After that pop punk and emo turned it into a complete joke
