If you look at music history over the years, you will see great progress in sound from the 1970s-1990s in music.

If you look at the 2000s - 2020s it's a different story. Everyone wants to be the next Shoegaze indie rock band or numetal Sleep Token Deftones Horseshit.

Pop labels and rap sound simpler and similar over time, almost like tent-pole blockbusters in the cinema world.

it all got thrown into a blender by social media becoming the primary and effectively the only medium for interpersonal cultural exchange, there are no subcultures or niches any more
