Oddly I would have agreed with this take 100% up until this album. Couldn't fucking stand these inoffensive Canadian dreampop schlopsters, but Blue Rev is probably the best album for me of the last 4-5 years. Just great indie pop songwriting with some cool tones.

it still sounds a bit like an out-of-touch elder millennial trying to be hip at times, but the songs are just solid af. Excellent vocal melodies especially.

yeah it is entry-level for the genre but it's pretty good too. and at least alvvays is like, a real band. they're old friends and been a band forever. they just got on the indie/shoegaze/dream pop revival early so it seems like they're trendy or plants but they were just the original revivalists, all i can say is stay mad

Alvvays is top of the heap when it comes to their particular genre. Which isn't saying much, but you cannot seriously claim that old C86/Sarah shit had better songwriting/arrangements than Molly & co; the bar was on the fucking floor.

detractors would say they cleaned up the sound too much, i'm sympathetic to that. borders on cookie-cutter without the twee flair or vacuum guitars, but if you just listen to it like good pop songs (like i tend to) it's just solid-ass music yeah, agree

every genre has the well-produced/poppy bands, it's kind of wonderful that the shoegaze versions of that are actually pretty good

There's a really solid one, but I won't sully their name by posting it here. It'll make its way to you eventually.

gatekeeping is supposed to be about preventing corporations from exploiting smaller artists for money, not preventing fellow music appreciators from hearing them. ur a loser

Right, because "name a zoomer band so I can shit on them" really oozes music appreciation.

shittiest take on alvvays ever, especially considering this is their most generic sounding album. literally sounds like generic nugaze
