why would an artist put out an album with such awful art?
don't they want people to listen to it?

>The cover art and three other pieces adorning the album's packaging were drawn digitally by Morrison on a personal computer at Water Music in the downtime between recording sessions. He claimed he was "just doodling" with no concept in mind when designing the artwork, and that other people in the studio had nonplussed or averse reactions to it

how old are you?

in 1999, MS Paint was such a fucking vibe, you would just sit at the computer and doodle shit. This album captures that era so well, it's honestly the perfect artwork for it

Man I fuckin' hate that album

I Love A Magician is really good, Memory Machine is fine but I cant stand the rest of it. You are Invited is so contrived. The Jitters is fuckin' terrible

I like Dismemberment Plan is Terrified a lot more, but at this point i skip a lot of the second half of that album too

This album sounds like someone listened to 90s indie rock and thought "cool but what if I take out everything about it that evokes any emotion and made the most bland shit possible"

I really have been so consistently filtered by DSP for like 20 years at this point. One of the few artists where I genuinely can not understand what people are seeing in them that I'm not.

Brother, You Are Invited is right after it on the album, and that song is a pandering, cynical pile of dogshit. Liking it more than Magician is ridiculous, you trout. My opinions are fact.

NTA I'm >>127378551 and I even had a mid indie rock band that toured several years ago but DSP filters me. Like, I don't hate it but it approaches serialism in its complete inability to make me feel anything except boredom.

It doesn't have to 'click' though. Its a very accessible album. Sure the lyrics only seem like they make sense when you're a teenager and are only truly realised in adulthood... if ageing into it is what you mean by it clicking then i understand. but otherwise no

This record encompasses the confusion of being in your late 20's without any career prospects, wearing your heart on your sleeve, rebound dating a succubus while getting over the oneitis, the looming fear of technology, anxiety and dreadful isolation with all the possibilities for change while being alone in a crowd, the city.

I thought about replying to this thread, as I consider the album out of season, best enjoyed towards the end of fall throughout Feb. Seems The Plan are best enjoyed during New Years. E&I, is in no way a summer record, all of the scenarios/lyrics focus around fall/winter, it carries the change of autumn to the dead of winter and reflecting with that change. I'm only being practical when observing this dialogue on the topic

With that said Memory Machine is perfect, the build up is spectacular to lay in the hook, genius where the swarm of sound layers Travis' voice, it's all or nothing, J. Robbins production greatly enhances this track, it's certainly a highlight amongst highlights on an otherwise stellar album. Again, I'm a seasonal listener, so I'm not running back on the track.

As p4k-core grows old and stale like Arcade Fire, Strokes, and Bon Iver, this album stands above the rest and stands the test of time

Honestly I think the cover art is a big reason I don't like the album. I listened to it without even knowing what genre it was just because the art was so eye-catching. I guess I was expecting something a lot more interesting and experimental than the, if I'm being honest, perfectly good indie rock that it ended up being. The cover art should match the sound goddamn it!

pic related mfw the entire time listening to it

>As p4k-core grows old
EMERGENCY & I and, like, SPLIT PERSONALITIES 12 Rods, DOWNWARD IS HEAVENWARD Hum, and 13 Blur *were* the original P4K core…. back in the day.

How it turned into Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah/Animal Collective I’ll never understand… hard to believe now but Pitchfork actually used to be kinda sick.
