It happens when artists sit on a song for too long. It starts to sound boring to them and they end up swapping out good bitsft new ones that sound good to them because of novelty. Same reason artists play ass live versions of fan favorite songs they've been doing for 20 years

Agree OP. It's so fucking compressed. There's a tiny vocal in the middle of these huge squashed sounding pianos and bass. Sounds fucking awful on headphones.

What it lacks in compositional prowess it makes up for in sheer emotion. It was still about the same girl 20 years later in a very different, much sadder context and what we got ended up sounding like digging up old ghosts in an attic.
