MCR which made, and i think we can agree in unison, made one great album, pound for pound, and then pure slop for the rest of time.

True, Mayhem's first album is iconic, but if you really listen to their next 3 or 4 albums and don't think at least a couple of them are also very good then maybe you're a tourist who cares more about the myth surrounding the music than the music itself.

It's a solo debut, but it still fits. One of my favorite albums of all time, but I couldn't get into The Knife either besides Heartbeats and Raging Lung. I need more electronic with tribal percussion

The Used and Bayside, both released amazing debut albums, the first literally made one of my top 10 best ever albums, on par with Wish You Were Here as far as I'm concerned, but the rest of their discography, although not necessarily bad, pales in comparison.

Actually it was the second Bayside album that was the best, but the fall from grace for The Used should make them the poster child for this thread, I know of no better example : https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?b=6022 https://www.albumoftheyear.org/artist/5404-the-used/ metric doesn't come anywhere close https://www.albumoftheyear.org/artist/227-metric/ https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?b=3941

Years upon years of perfecting their favorite songs in their catalouge. Then they put all of them on one single album because they are very proud of those songs. The album turns out good because it is often their best material also unbourdoned by factors such as fame and expectations. When time comes to follow that up they have to start from scratch or use songs they havent worked on as much. The follow up is then either a worse version of the first album or a big deviation to try and meet/defy unrealistic expectations
