I disagree with the general attitude that this album is worse than their other ones. I think it’s great. As for the content, I don’t necessarily feel that this is quite an “apocalyptic” album. It more so gives me the feeling of inevitable decay. It’s a timelapse fugue state of a slow fading-away. But regardless of interpretation, I think it’s a really enjoyable album. It’s a trip, much like their other stuff. I hope they release more music someday.

It loses a bit of steam in the 2nd half but those first 7 tracks easily rival the best off of music has the right for me anyways. Satellite Anthem Icarus might be their best track period. Second half has some fantastic tunes as well, Hey Saturday Sun, Slow This Bird Down and Macquarie Ridge

Yeah, the first half of the album is definitely better.
It's really hard for me to ranking their albums because excluding TH and probaby R35, they're all 10. But so far it would be MHTRTC > TCH > Geo > R35TT > TH

This makes more sense
It also seems that each new album is the opposite of the previous one. From childhood bright memories they moved to childhood traumas, then to escapism away from everything bad, and after forests and beaches were replaced by deserts and ruins, a cruel world from which you cannot hide

I think my biggest critique of the album is that it leans a little too hard on John Carpenter. I find BoC much more interesting when they're doing creepy plunderphonics.

Fucking all wrong, Geogaddi is so obviously summer, Campfire is spring, Music Has the Right is winter and Tomorrow's Harvest is Autumn
Anonymous No.127404231
The album is explicitly apocalyptical at first glance but the title and even the cover (a sun rise) implies some hope after the inevitable collapse of society (likely caused by technology, as they hint with nods to Joseph Marie Jacquard). And then you have songs like "New Seeds" that end with a glimmer of a hopeful melody. It's the idea that societies live and die in cycles, and the hope is that from the rumble a better, new civilization emerges.

It is very relevant a decade later after seeing all of our progress with AI.

I find it hard comparing their albums because they all have such distinct identities while being of a similar amazing quality. I think your favourite BoC album will probably be the one which emotionally resonates with you the most, which for me is either MHTRTC or Geo. Like I said TCH and TH are still just as good imo, but they don't resonate as much with me thematically but I could definitely see that changing as I get older. I fucking love Boards of Canada so much bros.

The whole album it's incredible, but there's two specific tracks that always give me that "haunting feeling"
>Nothing Is Real
The song by itself it's melancholic as fuck, but that experience it's enhanced by that one music video
Not to mention the "Jesus monologue" right in the middle of the song
All in all, it never fails at making me go into a spiral of bittersweet memories, y'know
>White Cyclosa
This one it's also a sureshot of melancholy, but there's also the track's title itself
Like, the whole theory about how it's a metaphor of winter, and it's comparison to a spider's trap
A spider that regularly pulls a fucking Vlad Tepes, and deliberately decorates it's web with corpses

I think Christ. gets the closest, and earlier Tycho got had similar synth sounds occasionally, but it's not the same.

The mix of samples, analog synths and beats that Boards use are pretty idiosyncratic and are made on rare pieces of equipment, so I think people struggle to even imitate it.

I always thought someone would come out of the woodwork and successfully copy them, but it's yet to happen, to my knowledge.

TCH has always been my favorite but TH managed to creep its way into second place over the years as a sort of inverse version of Campfire. I found it underwhelming upon release but man, it does a great job of maintaining a kind of exhausted paranoia as things slowly crumble all around.

...Except for Palace Posy, which seems to be a fan favorite but it just never clicked for me and just kills the mood. I now always skip it.

The Old Tunes saga is best if just listened to in its entirety. It's a remarkable capsule of a certain time. While there are lots of songs that are absolutely within the sound that BoC has on their official albums, there's plenty of shorter interludes or snippets that make the whole thing something extra special to listen.
As far as the best songs that have that specific BoC feel too them:
>Forest Moon
>Sequioa

>Mukhinabaht
