While Christgau always had an fairly eclectic range of material he reviewed, RSM in the 70s was very very rock and singer-songwriter focused and had little interest in country, jazz, R&B, and so forth. Black musicians who weren't Chuck Berry, electric blues players, and Jimi Hendrix got little mention there.
