There's a dream he dreams where the high school's dead and stark
It's a museum and we're all locked up in it after dark
The walls are lined all yellow, grey and sinister
Hung with pictures of our parents' prime ministers
Wheat Kings and pretty things

Fireworks exploding in the distance
Temporary towers soar
Fireworks emulating heaven
'Til there are no stars anymore
Fireworks aiming straight at heaven
Temporary towers soar
'Til there are no stars shining up in heaven
'Til there are no stars anymore

Amerifats just wouldn't get it.
There is literally nothing better than sitting around a campfire drinking under the stars, listening to the Tragically Hip. Getting a mediocre handjob under a blanket from your friend's drunk Aunt while "Long Time Runnin'" plays. I fucking love this country, man.

That country is gone, and what remains of it in the sticks will be ended by people "not being paid" by government back channels to set fires and/or the deliberate collapse of services.

True, I was remembering an idealized version of Canada from like 15+ years ago.
But please, Canadian schizoposter, tell me more! Where are we headed?

Headed to the inner part of cities if you're lucky and have a little wealth, and to the suffocating rings of favelas that will be built around them if you're not. No more rural communities. No more independent farmers (no "small farm future" as some hoped to argue in the 2010s), etc. It will "cost too much" to service rural communities (even if they are self-sufficient and off-grid), fires will keep mysteriously happening (
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/rnc-charge-man-with-arson-1.7608694), so as the cost of repair continues to mount, the water and power will be shut off (this will not end with a loan in the near future -
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/fauquier-strickland-provincial-funding-1.7596678), etc. Major roadways will no longer be accessible or serviced, except for corridors that are required for logistics. A corral, in short.

It's crazy how these fires really started ramping up after the former Greenpeace guy was made Minister of the Environment.

Twelve men broke loose in seventy three
From Millhaven Maximum Security
Twelve pictures lined up across the front page
Seems the Mounties had a summertime war to wage
Well, the chief told the people they had nothing to fear
Said, "The last thing they want to do is hang around here"
They mostly came from towns with long French names
But one of the dozen was a hometown shame
Same pattern on the table, same clock on the wall
Been one seat empty eighteen years in all
Freezing slow time, away from the world
He's thirty eight years old, never kissed a girl...
