Anyburn is free and awesome, very easy to use. I use the pro version though.
https://www.anyburn.com/index.htm

External DVD or Blueray drives can be bought on Amazon, eBay or Aliexpress for cheap. Are useful when you take your laptop to the library and rip all their music and DVD's for free too.

Music rips you only need Anyburn. dBPoweramp is the gold standard for MP3 ripping.

If your just using MP3s than it's built in to Windows Media Player lol

If you're using other audio formats (like lossless) than I'm not sure the best software, especially for free

This is the difference between Pro and Free version. The Free version is super powerful. You'll need Pro if you're planning on converting audio files into other formats.

I've used the free and open-source file converter program from https://file-converter.io/ to convert audio if anyone needs to convert things without paying

The setting are super easy to use if you have to change bitrates and things too, and it's very lightweight

You need a drive on your pc if you want to burn discs

As long as you burn them as audio CDs than you should be able to play them on like 99% of players, some of the old ones don't work but most players are fine (I even have an Optimus/Radio shack old player form 1995 that plays them lol - any player you buy from like 1998 onwards should be able to play them though (I think a lot of modern players specify that they are compatible))

>>127415938
Real, most disc rot comes from low quality discs. From what I've seen it seems way more rare that people make it out to be. I think if you store the discs well though, even some really low-quality discs can last a longer.
Anonymous No.127418917
Exact Audio Copy can burn CDs. It's easy, you just need drive that can write to disc and obviously some CDRs. You can also buy empty jewelcases

I assume you're running Windows 10/11, so I'll suggest using CDBurnerXP, download that and run the .exe. It's a rabbit hole imo because once you realize you can read/burn CDs with an external CD drive, you'll realize you can do the same with DVD/Bluray drives but that's another story, I digress. The software you downloaded will give you multiple options to write to a disc, but you must choose Audio Disc. Then you should plug in your external drive and pop in a blank CD-R. Open up the files you want to burn in the file explorer. Here's the tricky thing, I have no idea which audio codec (i.e. WAV, MP3 at 320kbps, or AAC at 256kbps) you'd have to burn to the CD-R because when I did it recently, I gave up once I realized my car can't play CD-Rs half of the time so I just gave up. Whatever you have, I would try to make use of all the space (around 700MB per disc) because you can't write to the disc again after the first burn (unless you got CD-RW or Mindisc but you can ignore this note for now). I would also advise to burn at low speeds for read accuracy. After you do all that, you should test it in a car, portable CD-radio player, a walkman/discman, a PS1-3 to see if the burn was successful.
Btw optical media that wasn't officially manufactured has less of a lifespan that official pressings (or burnings if you will).
