Seems a little bit too bro-country for my taste, but it is very solid for that genre. Very cinematic video and he's got a smooth voice.

At least some of us are, cmg-anon!

Discovered a really great old album of Jimmie Rodgers covers by a guy named Lefty Frizzell. Figured it'd be right up your alley:

Dude has a hell of a voice! How did you find this album? I've been finding some good hidden gems like this in thrift stores lately. It's crazy how deep of a genre country music really is when you start digging.

What are people's thoughts on Molly Tuttle making inroads on the Taylor Swift market?

I don't know how I feel about it. It sounds so contrived and forced, and her shortform videos are cringe. I wish she would stick to flatpicking her brains out but I get it that she wants to secure the bag. She's in a really good position to do so.

I take that back, I just saw a shortform video with a pop beat. I didn't realize she was still flatpicking her brains out now that I'm listening to it.

I might enjoy this.

I mean fuck, I'm on track #2 now and I'm sold.

If Molly's new grasspop sound gets Gen Z and Gen Alpha interested in bluegrass, I'm all fuckin for it! Hell yeah Molly.

I finally saw The Western Side's Morgan Wallen video:

https://youtu.be/8WnGhzAnujA?si=v4Sh3SZ5ggEYRc0O

I still don't really get Morgan Wallen. To me, he's still the opposite of what I want in a country musician. But I at least understand him somewhat better now. Though I still don't feel tempted to take up listening when I have so many other, more engaging artists like Charley Crockett and Tyler Childers I've still just scratched the surface with.

The cancel campaign on him was still cringe.

ding dong daddy from dumas - bob wills

tommy duncan sings about dealing morphine and coke in the third verse, kinda far out for a 30's song

Never been into him or understood the hype myself but I'm going to watch this video. Hopefully it gives me some insight.

Even though I'm not big into modern pop country, I enjoyed his feature on Post Malone's country album.

This is the kind of shit I keep making these threads for. I love the fact that we're collectively digging up all kinds of forgotten stuff like this. That song sounds really good and fresh to be almost 100 years old.

i'm a big bob wills fan, and all of his 30's and 40's stuff is on youtube, spotify etc. that's how i got into him. there's a lot of cool stuff and the lesson is that there is nothing new under the sun, all these things that we associate with later blues and rock'n'roll were already there way before

LGA here. I made this chart because I'm a proud Kentuckian and just want to highlight both some super well-known and some super-obscure artists from my region.

Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

I'm about to listen to Whitey Morgan. He's great. A true carrier of the torch of the Waylon Jennings and David Allan Coes in the outlaw tradition of before.

I like this Whitey cover better than the Biram version:
