New Pile
What does /mu/ think of their newest showing? Probably their most accessible album yet, but feels like a culmination of all the different style-changes they’ve gone through over the years
Every song has motifs from past albums rearranged and modified into something entirely new, yet familiar. Bouncing In Blue may be one of the best songs they’ve ever written.

Don't you feel terribly bored by the cliche of quiet to loud distortion to abrasive wind down? I don't even hear the song anymore, just the cliche.

You’re bored by volume changes and guitar distortion? Not even hearing the songs? This sounds like a personal problem. Were you a fan of Pile in their post-hardcore days?

I am bored by the structure of the song because it is a cliche that has been repeated by countless bands since the 90s but especially the 00s. "This sounds like a personal problem" - yeah, no fucking shit.

I was looking forward to this one but it didn't grab me as much as all fiction, which I liked a lot. maybe I need to give it another chance but eh

Except you’re not actually making any sort of observation here, you’re just saying you would prefer a stationary volume. That’s not criticism or any issue with the band, especially considering Pile is known for having some of the most unconventional song structures in mainstream-adjacent rock music. You’re just saying you didn’t listen to it and the presence of volume changes upsets you. I was going to try and have a productive discussion about it but you avoided answering my question as to whether you were ever a fan, which is telling.

What about it didn’t grab you as much? All Fiction was probably their farthest deviation from the “classic Pile sound”, this one feels a bit more mainstream-appealing while incorporating elements of the sound they developed during AF and their early post-hardcore days. How long have you listened to Pile, what are your favorite albums of theirs
