I got to fuck around with a squier CV with them fake wide-range pickups this morning and honestly and it sounded pretty good.
Unfortunately I finally tried a p-90 epi LP and that thing fucked, I thought p90s were supposed to be bright, it was growling and barking. Really want a p-90 guitar now.

Goal is to hit 50 songs by the end of the year. Some of these I learned by ear but sometimes my practice sessions is playing along on shuffle or adding songs to this list. The LRD song i am still learning. I got the first 3 and a half minutes down, then the bass does some crazy shit i can't hear over the guitar

P90s imo are definitely more vintage and barky at higher volumes. They clean up at lower volumes, but aren't as clean and hi-fi as Dynasonics.
A nice P90 equipped guitar is essential.

Would you consider an expensive guitar ($3000) if it had rust on some of the metal? I got offered a Custom Shop Tele in a trade and I like everything about it other than the saddles, screws in the body, and screws on the tuners are all brown with rust. It wouldn’t bother me too bad if the whole guitar was relic’d but the rest of the guitar has just normal play wear for a 15 year old guitar, nothing crazy beat up. The rust makes me question the guitar though.

On bass pretty well, on guitar snail pace. I need to be putting in as much work on bass as I am guitar but it's so much harder I'm only doing like 30 minutes before I tire out from fucking up. I have 2 songs that I've been trying to learn. I got majority of four hours by duster down. the 2nd song is drowning man by the cure. It involves chords so I'm using that for practice with moving my hands comfortably on beat.

How much gain is too much gain?
I noticed that I have an easy time nailing things with high gain. But once I turn the gain down it feels like I am playing with heavy weights on, hard to describe.
But practicing fully clean makes it very difficult to notice muting fails and such.
> use what sounds good
I am strictly talking about practice tones here that hide the least amount of bad technique

Sounds like a sustain problem? I rarely use the gain channel because of how much gain it produces, the crunch channel is usually more than enough gain for sustaining notes and doing harmonics.

I think i know what you mean, there's a really shitty point between clean and distortion where everything sounds off
Anonymous No.127419317

>set amp to barely breaking up when played hard
>throw overdrive in front of it
>throw clean boost in effects loop
>add a fuzz or second OD on board
>use volume knob on guitar to dial in cleans
This is how I do it. Stacking gain stages gives you more control and doesn't make your guitar get lost in the mix like it will with super high gain stuff.

I’m glad I owned one of the first run of Jagstangs back in the day, while I regret selling it, it kinda suffers the worst of both the guitars it’s a mix between. The shape is just a bit too much as well, it would be cool if some other company took the idea and improved on it. Use a proper locking trem system, add a rhythm circuit, make it HH with split coil wiring, and put a good bridge on it. I like the general idea, just not how it was ultimately executed. Also, would love to see the Toronado get a proper fender model with a good range of colors and the ability to split the coils.

Someone in here told me I should post my Paranormal Toronado more because it’s always hidden at the back of my rack in pics I post. I’ve been playing it a bit more lately and it’s actually very decent for a Squier, but it just makes me want one with better components and QC. Something about the scale length, pickups and LP influence makes for a winning recipe mixed with the body shape. Fender has a bad habit lately of taking a model like it and either subtracting or swapping out intrinsic features and characteristics, so if they do release a Toronado here’s hoping it’s a traditional model. It’s going on 30 years old, make a fuckin Vintera Toronado for all I care lol

I feel like younger players are buying the offsets, which guitars do gen z want to collect? Obviously you can buy reissues but i think the timber would be different compared to the 60's (maybe made from older trees). Are the newer reissues made from lighter grade mahogany?

A lot of the vintage guitars are priceless due to the names attached to them (played by famous musicians) but I feel as though the only people willing to buy them are doing so for sentimental reasons.

a 59 les paul is not worth 500k because it's a 59 les paul made from old growth mahogany that doesn't exist anymore and handwound pickups with hide glue
it's worth 500k because jimmy page plays one. it's worth 500k because peter green, paul kossoff, eric clapton, keith richards, etc. played one
if these names were not attached to these guitars, they'd be mildly interesting vintage instruments that probably go for 20k but not 500k
remember, until keith richards played one for the first time gibson couldn't give these guitars away. they were considered shitty jazz guitars and gibson discontinued them almost a decade previously

probably when I get free time again what I'll do is route some actual pickup switches into the red one, and then I'll wire those switches for coil splitting (currently the screws are bolted directly to the guitar and the switch holes just have black tape under them haha)

No, it's a good price for a MIJ. The mods just explain why. The hardware itself is probably worth a little, too. I have no idea, but the vibrato looks like it would have needed extra routing, compared to a 50s Strat, like that one looks to be modeled after. The shredder appliances are very out-of-place, and the string lock could probably be removed without much fuss, but the vibrato might have been a no-going-back decision.
It all depends on if you like it.

That’s a System 1 vibrato, that’s factory on some 1980s MIJ Squiers. That isn’t modded by him, that’s stock. That Strat would be called a Contemporary Standard from the MIJ E series, not to be confused with modern Squiers that also have the Contemporary Standard name. There were a handful of different vibratos on those guitars over the years in the 1980s, that System 1 was designed and built by Schaller and was used only in 1985 through the end of 1986 so that Strat is from one of those two years.

Without pics it’s hard to tell. There are some joint Japan/USA guitars from the 1980s. When the Corona plant started up in the mid 1980s there were some parts sent from Japan and used to help them begin making guitars, I’ve seen a few MIA guitars with MIJ necks from that era but not the other way around. In the late 1980s there was a year or two of USA made Squire guitars and some of those also had some MIJ parts, so for a guitar in the 1980s having both USA and MIJ parts it isn’t unheard of, although it’s more likely USA using MIJ parts rather than MIJ using USA parts. Fender Japan had no need to use USA parts, they already had been making full copies of Fender guitars before Fender partnered make them to make them under license. Again without more pics though it’s hard to tell, it’s totally possible someone just swapped necks.

Nice, I have one as well the older Bullet HH and I would say that the Sonic is noticeably nicer across the board. Aside from some sharp fret ends which were and easy clean up, it sounds and feels better than most other Squiers do compared to their Fender counterparts. I have heavy Martin acoustic strings on my Sonic and keep it tuned down to C for Kyuss and other heavier riffs and that little fucker holds tuning better than some of my fender offsets. The Sonic line has been very impressive from what I’ve played so far, I also have a Sonic P bass and the quality makes me want to try a Sonic Tele from at some point. Did you mention routing out the red Sonic? If so, consider putting a P90 at the bridge, I’d do that and maybe put a hotrail in the neck of mine if I didn’t have more pressing projects at the moment.

weird thing is, the bridge IS a double stack but it has hum too; in fact even the middle position on the 3-way switch has hum.
probably I wired something wrong? I'm still a rookie with the electronics side of it. could also be something about the polarity or whatever, I think I was supposed to put a middle pickup down there rather than a bridge one?

They’re memed a lot in both directions. They’re fine. They’re not as shit and gay as one side but they’re not the best thing since sliced bread on the other side. They’re a basic Fender originally marketed as a budget guitar. That doesn’t mean they’re bad. It’s just another guitar from Fender with its own quirks. There is zero reason to buy one over a Stratocaster or a Telecaster unless you’ve already got those.

Zip ties in that case, dual lock is all but permanent when used with normal loop tape as well. Using dual lock on another piece of dual lock is manageable though. But I've had it peel the paint off the bottom of pedals before coming off of my board many times, which is why I like it. The pedals aren't going anywhere while bouncing around in the trailer.

Phil mcknight, landon, and some random buff zoomer tested and all the post 2022 guitars come with hot ceramic PAF koreabuckers.
They honestly are dogass though, I have to crank my mid to max on my amp for either pickup to get something passable, playing more than one note at a time on the bridge will cause it scream and mud out. Good 500k pots and caps in there from what I saw. Everyone generally just replaces the pups but I'm hard pressed finding any decent sets on ebay for less than 130$, I might ask a local guitar tech if he has any scrap epi probuckers if the alnico Vs don't work out
