in 1958 Link Wray was 28 when he recorded Rumble.

A lot of blues guys started quite late (BB King cut his first record at 23 but a number of them were over 30).

SZA was a 22-year-old college dropout with no interest in music when her brother asked her to sing vocals on a song he'd made and she discovered that she could use that massive ass of hers to bang Kendric's agent and get a record label contract.

All members of the National were late 20's - early 30's and with day jobs when it was formed. They found that the trick to start at such an age is to just make the same song over and over.

Jane's Addiction as Percy was pushing 30 when they broke (yes the other guys were younger but...)

you're not going to amount to anything, dude. just let it go and start making music for your own enjoyment and pleasure. in 5 years you'll make this same exact thread asking for musicians that started making music in their mid-30s, and then in their late-30s onward lol. if you think you're going to pick up a guitar at 28-29 and magically start making a name for yourself in the world of pop music (or really anywhere) without exhibiting any prior skill or instances of songwriting/composition abilities before your late-20s, you're in for a rude awakening and a life ahead of you filled with constant disappointment and self-inadequacy.

the issue is are you asking if anybody started from scratch learning instruments or just making music? Most late-comers still had musical experience and didn't just pick up an instrument and start writing.

James Murphy was 34 when LCD soundsystems first album hit. However he had been some in the know cool new Yorker for a decade at that point so that helped. I reckon I'm gonna try hard til I'm 40 then I'm gonna pivot to trying to be a lazy boomer bar band and act like I used to be relevant.
