Depends on your framework. Some people only care about the raw sound-as-art and consider everything else a distraction, one of my old high school friends is that way and only listens to music in the dark with no visual stimuli of any kind. I can see the value in that but also in the gestalt experience of something more visual, more narrative, more multi-faceted. I guess they're just different things, like a finer level of differentiation between mediums than we commonly talk about.
