Writing oxygen was a serious achievement. It's like an industrial metal song that no one else could've written

The Seer and this and The Glowing Man are so fucking good
but then Gira just decided to turn it all into a formula and beat it to death

it was already formulaic and beat to death with the glowing man though

Were lucky he landed 3 iconic records back to back. Name one artist with a foot in the grave that managed that

Gira was 60 when TBK released. That's when a lot of musicians start butchering their catalogue cause of age

it makes me sad that this band has some of the best music to ever exist during their early years, 80s and the 90s but then they're associated mostly with these 2010s albums that somewhat all sound the same, all because some random fuckface gave it a perfect score. i think whatever they were doing in the 80s-90s and the angels of light project show how strong of a musician michael gira is than these albums ever will.

I love cop era but the 10s trilogy is refined and with a much faster gravity than most of their prior work. It combines the post rock of soundtracks with the intensity of cop, best of both worlds, the evolution of his entire artistic life

Regardless of whether it's over 40, or closer to 60, Bob Dylan did it with Time Out of Mind, Love and Theft and Modern Times, Bowie did it with The Next Day, Blackstar and No Plan and Nick Cave did it with any combination of his albums from Push the Sky Away to Wild God.
