Deliverance is Underrated
It's songs are harsh, heavy, direct, the mastering is flat, punchy, vocals are great...

People hated in it back in the day because the majority of people are crazy.

Their prog albums are the ones that are comically underrated but this board isn't ready for that discusison

Growls are not music

This and MAYH are their best albums. I'm tired of pretending SL and BP are that good.

Growls are a use of the voice as instrument with a cadence and affect not dissimilar to distortion pedals for a guitar. You don't have to like them, but they can certainly be called musical in nature, albeit as an instance of emphasizing extreme textures.

I think MAYH is overrated. Demon of the Fall is undeniably a classic cut but I've never loved the sound of the album. Orchid is charmingly amateur, Morningrise has the whole black metal-esque aesthetic, and they really started coming into their own thing with SL. MAYH has honestly always struck me as a transitional album, I get maybe liking it coming off of Morningrise but I don't think too much of it in a retrospective sense. I see it as "that album that happened inbetween Morningrise and SL".
