Lost the master disc evidently. I know Petula Clark's early pre-tape records had their master discs thrown out in the early 70s because the record label never imagined needing them again so any copies of them online or on comps are ripped from a 78 disc.

A lot of times the stories of lost/damaged masters were just covering for the fact that many of those recordings were bound up in shitty decades old contracts written by imperious Morris Levy types who were either impossible to negotiate with or completely AWOL.
