i remember Cuckgau didn't review this one although it was the first Stones album to come out after he started Consumer Guide because he was upset about Altamont

The Stones just never feel direct enough. The guitar interplay is too loose and there's always too much going on with keys and horns and whatnot. Almost all of their songs would be improved by being stripped down a bit. They are great songs.

The Stooges basically just did this and it was incredible. Near the end they tried to add a piano and if you listen to the shows and rehearsals from that era they just sound so much worse.

It's not filler but the live versions like the one on Get Yer Ya-Yas Out mog the studio version so hard it's kind of redundant.
