My uncle walks with a cane and weighs 300 pounds while living off disability in a place that, on paper, belongs to a dead person because he had his tibia dragged a quarter mile through dirt and gravel after a crash. He took me to the shooting range when I was a kid, and he got me into Sabbath (he had a soft spot for Born Again but I don't hold it against him)
It's depressing how much of a hermit he is now, he just can't do anything because he's never not felt pain since the 80s.

This hit hard man.
I lost a lot of interest in Mastodon over the years as they shifted towards becoming the Bill & Brann show with Troy and special guest Brent Hinds. Was looking forward to hearing his output once things had settled down. Should've checked out Fiend Without a Face when they were in Europe.
We lost a truly unique musician with him.

fuck bros. this one is different. i cant stop thinking about it. i measure moments in my life in albums and so many of those moments have been mastodon albums. there could have been the bad breakup and then, 5-10 years later, brent rejoins and we get another great album. but no, its gone. anything that comes after, album-wise, will just be half hearted and out of touch. the band is gone. death and space.

The Curl of the Burl is one of their best song. catchy but heavy at the same time.
Early 2000s had these new wave of bands from the US who had somehow punk roots in their approach but fused metal and psychedelia, melody and aggression. Torche, Kylesa, Mastodon, High on Fire, Mastodon, Big Business. Mainly inspired by Melvins and Neurosis but with a personal take each one of them. Around 2008-2010 all those bands were active and kicking and putting out some great music, and I guess they were all in good terms between each other, touring together etc.
the world was already to stupid to make it become a trend with a name even tho some magazine tried, but those bands deserve the credit for being the last good scene of bands coming out at the same time. good times

Tragic story, that. The line "I tried to burrow a hole into the ground, breaking all the fingers and the nails from my hand" in Oblivion is directly referring to when Brann, stoned out of his mind, tried to dig up her casket.
Maybe the boys can give Brent a proper sendoff in the form of an album. Probably would be better if they don't have anyone try to fill his role as guitarist in that case.

Emperor of Sand deserves more love, Jaguar God alone lifts it up a lot for being one of their best songs. Steambreather and Scorpion Breath have some great vibes. I like Roots Remain a lot for the vocals, too. Show Yourself is decent for what it is as well, not much to dislike there DESU.

Until more info comes out we have absolutely no way of knowing this
It was dark. Was he speeding and that's why the SUV didn't see him and didn't yield? Was he driving erratically swerving in traffic? He was a raging piece of shit alcoholic drug user going through a lot of mental issues. Was he drunk? On drugs? Was he riding impaired?
Until more info or the CCTV footage comes out, I'm not saying he's innocent

I'd be surprised if they don't write an album for him. They did it for their manager with the last album after all.

They played a show there, the fuck you want him to do? Just sit in his trailer crying?

Not a bad ranking. For me it would probably be:
1. Blood Mountain = Crack the Skye
2. Remission
3. Leviathan
4. The Hunter
5. Hushed and Grm
6. Emperor of Sand
7. Once More Around the Sun

Why is once more round the sun ranked so low it's better than emperor of sand

For my ranking I actually could (or should) have put it on 4. Those 3 albums are my least favourites, but are great albums imo and have some of my favourite individual songs.

Here's my personal ranking; none of their albums are bad. They are a phenomenal band that has evolved and matured significantly over the years.

Also a good ranking. And you're 100% right. Some of the albums didn't hit for me initially because of the changes to the sound, but none of them were actually bad and always grew on me.

I forgot Cold Dark Place too. So revised listing:
1. Blood Mountain = Crack the Skye
2. Remission = Cold Dark Place
3. Leviathan = The Hunter
4. Hushed and Grm = Emperor of Sand = Once More Around the Sun

Yes idk emperor was meh once more round the sun has like one bad song with the cringy let's rock and roll chant

The "Lets rock and roll" chant alawys takes me out of it to be honest. I think that's why it's on the same tier as Emperor of Sand.
