I was gonna post that. His solo career is largely dog shit, but this song has to be one of the most iconic songs of the late 80s, and at least to me more memorable than the VH stuff.

Steve Vai is a shit metal guitarist who should only have done prog rock. Both Roth's solo albums were cheesy bubblegum glam rock at a time when cheesy glam rock was popular and was worse than most glam rock at the time

The rightful guitarist was robbed by contracting a paralyzing disease right when he signs with Roth.

High profile? He was always the weakest link in VH.

I don't get what's particularly cringe about him. He just went on to make mediocre hard rock like most of his contemporaries. The quality of the first few Van Halen albums was an anomaly.

yeah the Vai/Bissonnette/Sheehan lineup was kino. I think the reason he got Billy Sheehan is thumb his nose at Eddie (who had tried to get Billy S to play for Van Halen a couple of years before).

Sitll though, the lineup through Skyscraper was tits. Watch some youtube videos from that Tour, and you'll see how painfully obvious it is that Dave was carried by his backing bands.

i admit i jumped on the reappraise dlr bandwagon.
that he was a funny, cool old-fashioned show-bizzy rock front man.
but i relistened to vh's first 2 albums today and he literally sucked major ass. easily worst part of a band who couldn't write a catchy melody to save their life (ok, they wrote a few good hooks and evh was a bitchin rhythm guitarist, but for rock legends, they are big overrated).
but anyway, back to dlr. this suck ass literally did that famous little gay-ass mini-scream thing he did in almost every line in every song. holy monotonous, no talent hack.
