Like most meme artists they're at their best when they actually try. Loaded, Paris 1919, Transformer best things these people were a part of. Take it further with another artists involved. Wrong Way Up is one of the best things Cale and Eno have been involved jn.

it's more the instrumentation than the singing or lyrics that was most innovative i think.
tho lyrical themes like heroin were certainly groundbreaking.
but more so was the droning, swelling guitar music of heroin or especially cale's use of abrasive drone with the viola on venus in furs or black angel death song.

Underwater Moonlight always felt more Syd Barrett-y. Hell my only issue with that album is that it feels like he's trying a bit to hard to replicate Barrett's style with the lyrics. One of my favorite albums regardless
