At the very least In the Mouth a Desert and the run from Zurich is Stained through Here are almost as good as Summer Babe. It's still the best Pavement album.

Indie/alternative was always rock for pussies. The Velvet Underground was just The Rolling Stones for sissies. This is not a bad thing.

loretta's scars also is really good and catchy but malkmus was too cool to mix his vocals properly so it never gets the love it deserved

they're not ABBA or Led Zeppelin, they've never heard of hooks.
they're not disciplined enough to make a meh song good, then make that good song great, then push that great song to become amazing.

sadly they influenced many modern artists, who are just as lazy and think, "It's all done" as soon as they sketch out the bare bones of a song
what a grim legacy lol

See? This guy agrees independently with me about which songs are the best on the album so this is proof that there are clear standout songs other than Summer Babe.

The whole album is just great. Its a great fun vibe and once you get used to all the songs they are catchy and melodic in their own way. Malkmus has a funny voice but I find it comforting

Retard never made it to the GOAT aka Wowee Zowee.

Can't believe I see so many dumbasses shitting on Pavement. Goddamn. They're an awesome guitar band for sure.

Wowee Zowee, Brighten The Corners, Slanted & Enchanted, Crooked Rain, Terror Twilight.

There you go there's the best to worst list.

Silver Jews albums are interesting as well, especially Starlite Walker since it's right before Woweee Zoweee and some of the effects synths and guitar tones are shared.

Wowee Zowee era live shows are incredible to, especially around 94' to '95 to hear early Woweee stuff. Fun to collect.

Don't like em? Then I don't like you so fuck you.

An often overlooked fact is that it's partly their best album cos of Gary Young. They shouldve tried harder to keep him in the band. Excellent drummer and chaotic onstage element.

I used to feel that way for awhile.. all their albums are huge growers. Tons of great guitar work and creative experimentation that doesn't get too "pretentious" or contrived.

Were they really “slacker” though? Hard Gen-X coded for sure (the Winona Ryder song?)… but Mark Robinson was METICULOUS when it came to the aural/visual quality of his Teenbeat Records stuff… the master of PERFECT TEETH he gave to the 4AD is one of the most fucking pristine things you’ll ever hear.

Hardly Guided By Voices or SEBADOH III
