Cherone gets a worse rap than Hagar, which is funny considering he isn't really the reason why VH3 is so shit.

>>127487660
Are you talking about Bolin or Morse? Bolin is more disliked because his heroin addiction contributed to Purple breaking up rather than anything to do with his musical abilities. Morse was considered to be a bit of an odd choice but was well liked by the fans after Purpendicular came out and was seen as a real return to form by the band.

>Have I been lied to?
Absolutely. VH1 and 1984 almost out sold the entire sammy era by themselves. Part of the confusion is that sammy era DID have several "#1 albums"- as Sammy will be the first to tell you...but all that means is they sold more than the next guy that first week or 2. 1984 outsold 5150 by far in the first month of their respective releases but 1984 was up against Thriller- the best selling album of all time lol- and thus only came in #2

I like it all.

As the other guy says above though, Cherone wasn't the problem with Van Halen III, it was Eddie's alcoholism. Cherone could bring the goods live and the setlists were great during his stint - he wasn't a bitch about doing the Roth stuff like Hagar was but then he also had the vocal chops to do the Hagar stuff which Roth wouldn't (and probably couldn't) do.

It's not at all interesting to know how much they've sold NOW. What's interesting is how much and how fast they sold albums back then.

And as you can see 5150 sold around the same amounts for the first 6 months as 1984.

Van Halen's debut most likely started to sell more after Jump was released and 1984 started to sell again after 5150 was released. That's usually how consumer patterns work.

They had four straight #1 albums with Sammy Hagar and several hit singles. If you go by charts the Van Hagar period was way more successful.
>>127488162
Most people loved it. Ozzy Sabbath was seen as old tired dinosaurs by the end of the 70s and Dio was seen as a much needed injection.

>My statement was true no matter what the facts
fify

You only have 1984 data from 2 months and 10 months....so, how do you know how many it had sold at 6mos? you dont. You are trying to make your narrative fit...when the facts say that 1984 sold as many albums in 10 months as 5150 did in almost 3yrs...and in the end sold amost twice as mich as 5150 to date.

5150 went multiplatinum faster than any Roth album; two months for 5150 and nine months for 1984. So the Van Hagar narrative is that they were instantly more commercially successful.

I don't know the exact date, I just know that's Sammy's explanation for saying his era was bigger. By all other metrics it's not true, but using this arbitrary time of sales in the first two months after release, 5150 was the biggest. I guess they do statistics differently down in Cabo.

1984 continued to sell because Van Halen started to put out straight to #1 albums and MTV kept playing Jump and Hot for Teacher.

Anyways, 1984 is barely more than an EP, and probably would've been better as a 4-track EP

Brand new is a stretch. They were songs we had not heard before and some of them were VHIII follow-up leftovers that got scrapped when WB dropped them. As Is, HoneyBabySweetieDoll, The Trouble With Never were all written in VH's dark period of 1998-2004. Ed had been playing pieces of all that music during appearances at NAMM and other one off events for a while. As Is specifically was played at a NAMM 2003 appearance. Sadly, I have sincere doubts Eddie wrote much after around 2007 when he got sober. Even the latest VH track "Unfinished" that Alex put out is from 1996.
