Why is this the prerequisite to giving only negative opinions and not positive ones? I can do that by the way, but I'm not going to because it's completely unnecessary. But since you want to work like that, post yours before you go on saying this band is any good. If you can't say something is bad without posting your music then you can't say it's good either.

Sub Pop was a small shit label that couldn't even pay Nirvana 600 bucks to record their first album.
Let alone run a marketing campaign to promote a new rock genre in mainstream media.

That's why Cobain wanted to sign a new label and started writing more tuneful songs. He was hoping to get a deal with an actual label capable of making their music available in stores.

Lol this type of writing sounds so pastiche today with how many people have mocked this era of music and the culture surrounding it. This is music for old people and it shows with the faggy way in which people write about it. I'm surprised people still hadn't dropped this shit by 1989, Spinal Tap had already come out several years earlier. And the photographs are really cliche as well. i think Grunge falls in category between genre and movement/scene, there are some similarities between bands specially in guitar tone due to most of them being from Seattle or areas near Seattle(or influenced by bands from there).

But yeah, it's kind of like post-hardcore or nu-metal, in the sense that it describes a movement of various sounds rather than a straight genre.

Nirvana is more post-hardcore and punk with some metal ala Black Sabbath here and there

Alice in Chains is metal
Pearl Jam is classic hard rock, really bluesy
Soundgarden is metal/hard rock/stoner depending on the album.

That said they all share a somewhat similar guitar tone aesthetic and attitude
