Power metal from 1998 to 2004 was the peak of musical achievement unironically.

Why was that era what it was? I agree but would say 1998-2006 rather than 04

Blame it on social media. I blame it on the rise of instant digital photography personally. That was when people's relationship with themselves really seemed to start turning. Self-consciousness and self-awareness became endemic. People learned to project by being hyper judgmental or ironic. It's hard to do metal the old fashioned way when being cringe is a concern. Every new band seems to be making excuses for itself. Everything's either tongue in cheek, hyperpolished to avoid offending the normies, or safely derivative, just about the most boring form of genre exercise. Sad times.

I can see it. When Stratovarius and Rhapsody were best, they fell off. Modern power metal is too cheesy like whatever tf Gloryhammer is.

Simple as.
Idk just seems like all the good guitar tracks just stopped after than point and the genre went more towards overproduced symphonic shit instead of neoclassical shredding.

I was not into power metal at that time. Mostly just listened to grindcore and goregrind. I came from the punk end of things. If it didn't sound like shit wasn't having it.

Yeah. I was never heavily into Stratovarius themselves but every band I liked was influenced by them. Rhapsody of Fire is cheesy but there were some good ones too. Also almost forgot SymphonyX.
