I figured this was copypasted.
The intro to the critic's perfunctory flurry of reviews is like a parody of a pretentious metalhead who's read too much Julius Evola. Embarrassing.
Anyway...
>trying to introduce shocking music into a world where everything is pure aesthetics emulating some ideal or recombination of them
This is a very stupid criticism. Musicians and audiences have always placed more value in aesthetics than ideological content when it comes to music. And why wouldn't they? Unlike literature, the primary purpose of music is - and has always been - to make you feel not think.
As to the originality (or lack thereof) of Fossilization, the primary objective obviously wasn't to break new ground but rather to put a personal touch on an established style of DM. This is essentially what 100% of artists do btw: they take an existing formula (or some combination of them) and put their own spin on it. No piece of art exists in a vacuum.
Also, the driving force of metal has always been to shock people. It's a notoriously juvenile, superficial genre of music (that I also happen to enjoy).
