Depending on the year it was when you were 15, it can be very much forgiven. But if you weren't 15 in the early 2000s, you have no room to shit talk.

I dont believe that this band gets hate now because people organically grew out of it. I think Gen Z's loudest dimwits who have no attention span couldn't take the music anymore, and people followed suit

I think it's good that Godspeed gets shit. I think they had a hypnotic effect in the late 90s and early 00s because it was tapped directly into a bad mix of late 90s malaise and early 00s anxiety. The music uses it somewhat cynically to sell socialism/communism wrapped in idealism (but what else is new?), but that made a lot of sense at the time. Anti-corporatism/anti-consumerism bullshit was at a fever pitch (No Logo got popular around then but there were a billion examples in books, movies, everywhere), so their imagery and semi-anonymity, plus refusal to write short songs, made them very appealing. I've said it before and I'll repeat it now, post rock only made sense at that specific time. I actually give Godspeed all the credit in the world for disbanding in 2002. It was the only smart move and it was in fact consistent with their whole thing. Post rock ended around then. It's no surprise that they much more cynically came back in the 2010s. Their army of liberal nostalgia fans are what they deserve for it. This music simply could not age well and any instance of it beyond 2002 was anachronistic. If you weren't there, you missed it. The end.

I laughed at it. My memory is that they made some limp attempt to indirectly defend their return on the back of the ongoing War on Terror (something something people have become accustomed to unending war, etc. etc.), but in 2012. I know these types because I'm very familiar with the Mile End and where these people are from in Montreal. You can tell that they were personally wounded by Obama. No matter how leftist their claims and associations, they are just Canadian liberals, and that record amounted to nothing more than "fuck you Obama!!!!" the album. I haven't followed their bullshit since 2002. There's just no need. There never will be.

It's possible to say that, for example, some of the best punk albums have been released in the last 15 years. I could say that some of my favourites definitely have been. But that doesn't mean punk hasn't been dead and gone for decades.

That's a good point. You're right, the genre is almost all stale and has been for years. Whenever I see people praise a new post-rock band, its always the most boring faux-cinematic crescendo core imaginable. Anyone doing anything different gets a different genre label now, I guess. Back then, practically everything instrumental was lumped into it.

French African and Haitian immigration massively increased since the 2010s, ditto with Arabs. Ahuntsic-Cartierville, but basically anything beyond Jean Talon, is a medina by this point. only bad sophisticated rock fits that description. good sophisticated rock is unironically way better than the vast majority of WAM. WAM lost the plot in the 20th century, and the Classical era was already shit before that anyway. Baroque and Romanticism were the only genuinely musical periods of WAM.
