Kero Kero Bonito
Whatever happened to Kero Kero Bonito? They were big for a couple years, but outside of Sarah's Cryalot side project, there hasn't been anything from them for years. I don't like them myself - they're too damn cutesy for me - but it's lowkey amusing given how music nerds online went nuts over them (and let's be real, a big part of it was them thirsting over Sarah Bonito)
Anonymous No.127535167
They're all in their mid 30's now probably focusing on better things.
The last EP they put out in 2021 was really good though.

For whatever reason when I was young I thought she was the hottest thing ever. I got into their music for whatever reason (I think it was my schizo friend) and they were on rotation all the time in middle/high school for me.
Anyway, the real answer is that all these people have lives outside of their band and just gave up because the Millennial indie thing had overstayed it's welcome. I like that they went out on top.
Also, it's partially due to Beabadoobee blowing up and filling that same niche almost exactly when they stopped making stuff.

I like them a lot, it was cool how you could really see the way their music evolved from Intro -> Generation -> TnP, and I was excited to see where they would go from there. Yeah they were cutesy but in my opinion they were never shallow. Civilization was fine but not really a big step forward musically or emotionally like you got from BG to TnP. Shame the project seems basically dead now other than the occasional remix.
Has anyone listened to any of their solo stuff, particularly Gus' or Jamie's? Is it any good?

None of you guys are really telling the obvious truth which is that this brand of happy-go-lucky pop with Eastern sensibilities got quickly replaced by two much more dominant forces in Asian music. I'm specifically referring to KPOP in the mainstream, and Mitski-core for indie-adjacent circles. Now you might not get what that entails but consider other media for a moment. Every single book written by an Asian-American author is now about the struggle of being an Asian-American. Likewise, the gulf between J-Drama and even C-Drama (such a thing exists) is widened thanks to K-Drama appealing as much as it possibly can to Westerners. So we return to KKB and what do we see? Harmless fetishism for JPOP with the naive acceptance of one's identity as a HAPA living overseas. Yes, I'm aware they're a British band with two white guys and a Spanish name, but this loops back around to what I'm ultimately striving to get across here. There was a fleeting period in the mid-to-late 2010s when multiculturalism was liked and accepted, not just by reactionaries but by the same people who would later go on to whine incessantly about how they hate being a symbol of multiculturalism while reaping its benefits. When we take this childlike whimsy out of the picture, and make everything various flavors of Mitski ("I hate my overbearing mom!") then that seeps into every sector of society. Music isn't fun anymore because the fun music is built upon, to some extent, the nihilistic corporatized existentialism of modern day KPOP. KKB were a drop in the bucket but they did provide some kind of potential salvo to this humdrum era of desaturated pop we're forced to accept made by women who are worked to the bone and don't want to start familities. And if I can get a little bit schizo I think this same fucking thing happened to post-punk about a decade too. We could have had a bunch of Guerrilla Toss ripoffs but instead we got the most boring shit in the world. Remember Drunk Tank Pink? LMAO

Yeah I got in trouble 2013 for even asking if multiculti was good and almost expelled from college because I am a shit debater and got really scared having like 30 people yelling Nazi at me.

Its soooo much more accepted that multiculturalism is terrible for your social cohesion now. Still, wonder if I would get yelled at anyway.

I fucking love Crusher. He singlehandedly exposed all KKB posters as shameless waifufags. That obnoxious album cover used to litter the catalog every day for months, but within hours of Crusher posting the “keepin the belly full and the balls empty” tweet with a pic him and Sarah together, all KKB threads stopped and never returned. It was incredible how fast “fans” lost interest in the music once they realized the weeb girl who seemed attainable in their retarded simp minds was getting plowed by a brown jock with a huge dickprint.

And then he pumped and dumped her so hard that she still hasn’t recovered and named her solo project “Cryalot”. It was perfect. The talentless weebette and her enabling simps all got assblasted at once. God bless you, NexGenCrusher. You’ve done God’s work.

I'm getting into olf 4AD stuff, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, etc. I also got back into Big Black.
I love goth and post-punk stuff and I'm interested in all the different streams and ways it went after the early 80s because I think people focus too much on the immediate stuff. Especially now, I'm surprised there hasn't been a revival of the more niche genres of Goth and post-punk given both aesthetics and genres have remained influential.

The joke being that Beabadoobee obviously can sing fine while the footage of NBA Youngboy usually had random opera singing over it.
