I don't think any other mainstream rapper at the time could have pulled a song like this off. Lost Yourself and songs like Stan are uniquely Eminem type songs. He let so much of his personal life known that you basically rooted for him at the time. A lot of black people like to say they couldn't relate to Eminem but I fully expect this is just major cope on their part. He was extremely relatable coming up if you were just a regular person who wasn't a wannabe thug. "They don't listen to Eminem in the hood!!!!" they always say, like who gives a shit about the hood. Not all black people live in the fucking hood. Anyway, imagine JayZ or Nas trying to make songs like this, it just wouldn't have worked. Sadly Lose Yourself was a precursor to something like Not Afraid which was omega-cringe.
