jazz is very good club and wallpaper music. but to answer your question i think it's perpetuated by the musicians, not the consumers. jazz is seen as the ultimate level of musical technique as it uses polyrhythms, complex chord progressions, and sometimes very fast tempos. it's also dominated by breaks or solos where players seem to encourage eachother to play things that don't necessarily sound good but are more of a flex or music theory. i do like a lot of jazz but it got pretentious very quickly

Almost true, anything remotely african is just inherently bad and will get worse as whites try to make it sound good as it's basically trying to make a square into a circle. The greatest music ever written is done by western europeans and nobody else

I wouldn't say it got memed into high art, but what is true is that many famous Jazz musicians had a classical music educational background. Intellectuals like to stick to themselves since our society is highly stratified by class to begin with and the Bildungsbürgertum is especially reclusive. So intellectuals do not see the jazz musician, they see the Juilliard School graduate instead, and this is enough for them to accept Jazz as a whole, as long as the can perpetuate their alumni cronyism that way. Same reason they will accept an artist who only shits diarrhea on the walls, as long as he graduated Pratt Institute, but NEVER a self-taught painter of mind-elatingly beauty.
tl;dr: It is a small club and you are not in it.

I said it's "a bit simple" you illiterate retard. I understand minimalism deliberately uses sparse instrumentation and harmony. I'm criticizing something entirely different which you consistently fail to understand over and over. Probably because you have a shallow and superficial relationship to classical music in general, like most people who randomly bring up Arvo Part.

you're criticising bebop (a subgenre of jazz), and bebop was created for musicians to wank each other off, proverbially speaking. it was not created to have mass appeal or for normies to really enjoy it, it's just musicians showing off to/for each other and it does not represent the entirety of jazz. i love jazz but i detest bebop.

Been playing clarinet and guitar for nearly 20 years, piano for 15, drums for 8 or 9. Not super good, but I have proficiency in both performance and theory. Used to take formal music lessons for maybe 3 and a half years. Performed live several times as part of school band, coffee houses, bands with friends. Been listening to jazz for two decades. You, however, listened to a couple bop albums and now deluded yourself into thinking all jazz is le complexity despite thousands of numerous, famous examples like pic related. Cope harder, retard.
