>anything new is hated by default
>the hatred is infectious
>the hatred isn't organic, it gets mimicked constantly
>it gets mimicked so much that the hatred becomes a meme of itself, and the music that was once hated is now enjoyed
>a once loved artist gets picked apart by pedants and is now hated by many
>the cycle continues

why are you like this?

inveterate contrarianism. on a social media site where everything is ephemeral and anonymous, the only way to get attention is to be the most outrageous. no communities are able to be built here so it's just constant chaos. it worked...for a little bit.

then came the people that didn't understand what the site was about.

People are afraid to go against the popular consensus, so they never check anything out on their own because they may have an opinion that doesn't conform to the perceived broader masses. Easier to say something very few know about sucks than to praise something someone else might not like. 4Chan today is as edgy as Facebook or Reddit, no nuts.

So what is it about, being chaotic and attention-seeking with divisive takes? Or are you implying some sort of purity was lost

OP and this post make me think of people suddenly hating arcade fire and radiohead, when they were once included in "/mu/-core" and the like. And then I see the sentiment: "those that liked it matured", but we still pedal 1960s and 1970s albums with the same or less depth

it went from being a place to blow off steam to becoming a schizophrenic hotbed where the schizos thought they were in good company

>i listen to something
>if i think it sounds like shit i will decree that it's shit regardless of age, context, influence, other people's opinions, etc.
it's not complicated anon

Hey I always thought /mu/-core was so bad it's depressing. Like going to a party and it turns out everyone is dressed like this.

those two bands were heavily astroturfed and presented as something bigger, more profound, and more earth-shattering than they really were, which is why there was such a backlash against them. they're still tied to a larger context, including fans and presentation and whatnot, that immediately affects one's perception of their music, whereas those older acts have gone past that point and subsist on different parameters.
