It was funny being in an upper middle class high school where more than a few 16 year old nerds really thought this guy was a genius in 2011

Most of the internet thought the guy was a genius in 2011, and he did a sellout reunion tour to ride that brief wave of popularity, after trashing his band's chances in the 90s.

He is kind of a genius. He had a talent for making melodies and favored free form song writing that made his music unique sort of like the way Cobain would go about producing his music

I thought it was less than a sell-out and more the fact he showed up to the occupy protests and found out he was a real celebrity now. Everyone was going nuts on social media about it

Idk man, I always thought it was kinda silly that he had a nervous breakdown because his record sold twenty copies and was reviewed by pitchfork, at a time when pitchfork wasn't really that influential, only to later cash in when the Internet hipsters of the '10s discovered nmh, mostly through memes.

first time i've seen him compared to cobain but it makes sense. jeff has that way of brute forcing really simple chords into memorable songs, that and the lo fi production
