Wrestler Jeff Jarrett Says Taylor Swift Played Three-Hour Private Concert for Wife Dying of Cancer
WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett is best known for smashing guitars over opponents’ heads, but he left Taylor Swift’s instrument untouched when she used to visit his Nashville home. In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Jarrett revealed the then-rising country artist once played a three-hour private concert for his late wife, who was dying of cancer at the time.
“It was Christmas of 2006. My first wife was really ill with breast cancer,” the current All Elite Wrestling (AEW) wrestler and front office executive told TMZ. “She passed away about five months after this, so she was really ill, and a friend of Taylor’s said, ‘Hey, why don’t you drop by?’ Obviously, like every little girl in America, my daughters were big Taylor fans. Her songs had just kind of broke[n to the mainstream], but she was a hometown girl.”
According to Jarrett, Swift initially arrived without her guitar, but “ran back home” to retrieve it “’cause the girls wanted her to sing and play.” Double J claimed there were only about seven people when Swift began performing, but word eventually spread, and the crowd grew to around 45 people.
“By the end of the afternoon, Taylor played about three hours,” he said, before adding that was the moment when “she kind of bonded with the family, specifically with the girls.”
Jarrett then refuted a previous rumor that Swift used to babysit for him, but expressed gratitude for the singer being “really good with the girls” when she would come around after his first wife’s passing. He also praised her cookie-baking skills.
