What do you honestly think of John Lennon's post-Beatles music? Don't bring up what a pompous faggot he is, I want your pure evaluation of the music.

his music is obviously good but the fact he beat yoko and his kid is weird as fuck to me. man was a piece of shit until death

We used to not be able to discuss it back then. /mu/ hated the Beatles before 2016, you wouldn't have been welcome.

Listening to a John Lennon album is like spinning a roulette wheel for every track: You might get something great, or you might get the worst trash you've ever heard.

Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Mind Games, Walls and Bridges and Double Fantasy are all great albums. I have always loved his solo stuff.
I have the impression that people who belittle his solo career only count the experimental stuff.

Worst post beatles career not counting Ringo. When I was a kid adults acted like lennon had the best because of imagine but that song and the other shit he did is uninspired compared to what he put out in the 60s. It's sad but he shouldn't of switched to softer music and instead went more rock or psychedlia

Why do Redditors like to pretend John Lennon was the worst person in history? He openly had anger issues, even wrote songs about it so everyone knew, tried to change, and came back a totally different person when he returned from his ‘retirement’ in the late 70s.
Truly bad people don’t even bother trying to better themselves like he did.
I can't even name another artist who sang about his flaws the way Lennon did.

ignoring Ram, which is the schizo choice, there's basically two kinds of people in the world

>people who think Plastic Ono Band is the best post Beatles album
vs.
>people who think All Things Must Pass is the best post Beatles album

you have to pick a side, and picking a side says a lot about you
i'll go on record and say that I'm on the plastic ono band side

John tore Paul a new asshole with How Do You Sleep?
Anonymous No.127640246 >>127640360
so what if he wrote some diss track. John was too busy not getting dressed and fumbling with Yoko. Paul got into electronica. Paul got into prog. Paul experimented with genre and identity to much greater reaches then the Beatles or Lennon were ever able to accomoplish. They are relics of the 1960s.

Paul also lived 40 years more than John and didn't write a song as moving and harrowing as Mother ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Paul simply wasn’t as good a songwriter and lyricist as John was. No matter what the Paulfags say. He just wasn’t. John was able to connect with people on an extremely deep level in his songs because, according to himself, he wrote about himself and by writing about himself, he was writing about all of us, we all are flawed and confused.

Paul is good at writing circus music.

Man I forgot about Walls and Bridges. Fuck what a great album. John's doubled voice on #9 Dream is like ASMR with those strings in the background. This whole album should be listened to front to back. John's got these awkward songs that sound primitive at first but will get under your skin if you give them enough listens.

thanks for reminding me of this song what an absolute banger. the way john could write songs that just float from idea to idea seamlessly was a very rare talent.

It's true that Paul didn't write about himself the way John did. Rather, Paul excelled when writing about others; he was incredible at creating musical portraits of people. That's why Paul could write Eleanor Rigby and Fool on the Hill, songs which John could never write and were both better than anything he ever wrote.

Like what? Ram is much more relevant and influential. It still sounds fresh. Plastic Ono Band is just John whining and screaming during a heroin comedown and ATMP is dated hippie schlock.

It's pretty crazy how the Beatles individually went from God tier to good tier to okay tier pretty much at the same time.
Plastic Ono and Imagine were top tier albums made when John was still in his prime. Walls and Bridges, Double Fantasy and Mind Games were all pretty good but not on the same level. Same thing happened with Paul, McCartney and Ram were incredible and then the rest the was good but inconsistent. George blew his load on All Things Must Pass and never made anything great after that again. Ringo released a couple of fun albums that were just okay, but that's the best we could expect from him anyway.

Aged like milk. Nobody gives a fuck about Lennon persona anymore.
Only Paul's music aged gracefully.

Sure that's why celebrities fall into polemics singing Monkberry Moon Delight instead of Imagine. Because Lennon is dated.
