>Balance is the tenth LP by American rock band Van Halen, released on Warner Bros. Records January 24, 1995. It is the fourth and last Van Halen album to feature Sammy Hagar as lead vocalist.

it was the last passably decent VH record. VH III was objectively terrible, and ADKoT was mostly reheated leftovers from the 70s.

Eddie was a washed up alcoholic by this point.

The album cover screams "80s band who want the 90s look".

With the exception of King's X (who were sort of their own thing anyway), virtually none of the '80s hard rock bands who did these mid-'90s "darker" albums did it well. They all ranged from mediocre (Van Halen, Mr Big, Extreme) to awful (Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Warrant, Skid Row)

for unlawful carnal knowledge occupies that weird space between the 80s/90s, it's neat. although knowing hagar picked alice in chains to open for them already signaled they were on their way out

The Eddie Van Halen Method:

>get lead singer
>lead singer "lead singers" too hard
>get butthurt
>"IT'S MY NAME ON THE BAND, NOT YOURS MIIIIIINE!!"
>act like a cunt until lead singer quits
>repeat

Did he forget that Dave was the guy who decided to call them "Van Halen" because he thought it sounded awesome when the original name of the band was Mammoth?

they were lucky that they still had Warner's huge promotional muscle behind them because lots of 80s bands got dropped during that era and ended up on budget labels like Sanctuary/CMC

that album has DLRs best lyrics...and it has the best bass playing of any VH album. (backing vocals not so much)

>"Eddie was a sad sight by 1995," Hagar said in his memoir. "He would shamble around in an old trench coat drinking cheap shiraz straight from the bottle. It turned all his teeth black. I said 'Don't you want a glass for that?' He tapped the side of the bottle and said 'It's in a glass.'"

i don't think eddie ever did meth. he did A LOT of coke of in the 70s/80s, but he eventually switched over to alcohol later on. while chainsmoking the entire way of course

Eddie did the same thing to Sammy though. Sammy (in his view) was outshining him, the same way DLR did. For fuck sake if you wanna to be the front man of your band, BE THE FRONT MAN, faggot ass Eddie Van Halen

hagar picking AIC to open for them in 91 was a boss move; that was a great show.

having Baby Animals open in 92 was like "LOL WTF who did you ow a favor to?"

src: me. I was there at both shows

>Sammy (in his view) was outshining him
in whose view? Ed claimed it was cuz Hagar wanted to take a break after balance and didnt want to work. They also changed managers and the new one was like wormtongue. Being a raging alcoholic didnt help either. EVH was pretty messed up for awhile. its sucks. oh well. at least we have the music.
