Not OP but if your first exposure to Green Day was via video games in the 2010s, you are 100% a zoomer.

Still Green Day, zoomers have no culture of their own which is why rock has stagnated entirely.

Retarded thread full of retarded opinions; first off: Green Day rocks (until and including American Idiot, their best album); second: not all zoomers are dumb (I'm 28); third: chuds are retarded.

Mgk is "not real punk" and in MGK's case, it is true. Green day at least were playing venues, were from gilman street and actually spent years playing dingy shows and touring. MGK was already a rapper that switched to rock. He already made it by the time he decided to pick up a guitar and go through an emo phase in his 30s. This dude is in his 30s crooning about emo girls. In the 60s and 70s, you had people like David Bowie, the Kinks, the Beatles, the rolling stones who started off manufactured with a sound that was meant to appeal to radio but then said fuck being uptight and stiff, fuck doing it bt the book, let's do our own thing. MGK went fuck doing my own thing as a rapper, let me do derivative pop punk by the numbers

For a genre about rebelling against establishments and shit I've never seen any group more dogmatic and henpecking than punks. Idk how punks completely lack the self awareness to not notice the hypocrisy

>zoomers are fully corporatised. they cant distinguish between pro- and anti-establishment.
Never liked Green Day but the distinction between these things have totally collapsed. "Alt" media will air interviews with politicians that are far less confrontational and much MORE gooier than the traditional mainstream media, while the mainstream media increasingly buying up "alt" outlets or presenting themselves as anti-establishment.

I just can't get into Idles.
Realistically speaking, they should be my kind of music, but I just don't get them
They have a somewhat harsh sound, but not as harsh as actual noise rock or hardcore punk, but they're also not melodic, so there's no hook, but they're also not as good rhythmically as say, Gang of Four. And their lyrics are actually cringeworthy, so that's a turn off
What exactly am I missing with the band? Or is it honestly a case that people are mostly listening to the lyrics and the rest are secondary?

I've always assumed this. Back in my day when I had my first band, which was basically a noise rock/punk outfit I was an Objectivist which punks didn't like and then it dawned on me.
