Is it weird that even though I'm a Beatles fan, I don't like Revolver that much? Idk. I like some individual songs, but as an album it just doesn't work for me.

What's your opinion on Revolver?

I'm sort of the same way. I respect and admire it as a pivotal accomplishment and there isn't really a bad song in the bunch, but it just doesn't come together as well as it should. Ironically it feels more like a collection of random disjointed songs than their earlier albums. It hasn't been fashionable in music nerd circles to rate Sgt. Pepper above Revolver for a long time, but think the tables have turned where Revolver is now the increasingly hyperbolically overrated critical darling. Revolver era was the Beatles at their most /fa/, though.

I always felt like they (and the Stones) had some great songs but made shit albums.

I had the exact same opinion as you when I had only ever heard the stereo mix. Once I got the mono version, it became abundantly clear that it is their best work.

It’s not even so much that the mono mix is so great as it is the stereo mix is so bad. First 30 seconds of Taxman are a perfect example. All the instruments and half the vocals are in the left channel while the right channel is empty save for half the vocals and the occasional tambourine/cowbell. The hard panning is bad enough without the terrible balance on top of it. A lot of the double-tracked vocals on several songs from the mono mix are either absent on the stereo mix or are split between the two channels so they lose the effect.

Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Sgt. Pepper are the 3 Beatles albums that need to be heard in mono instead of stereo.

Yes it is weird, did you want to have a whole entire thread about that, OP?

Can you really call yourself a fan and not like Revolver? I mean, c'mon...

I love it
