very definitely, yes
some of the most-respected music is coming from that genre
composers have a lot of freedom and creativity and that leads to great stuff

Yes it is and there's a lot of amazing video game music out there, but the problem I have is that the standards for game music in general are incredibly low because I always see people who are mostly underage lose their shit over some mediocre level track music from some Nintendo game that 9 times out of 10 is just a pastiche of some existing work by a better composer, or alternatively you have shit like the Koichi Sugiyama school of composition which is to just compose pure unfiltered orchestral slop that people eat up because again, the standards for game music are incredibly low.

Not really because it still has to fit the vibe and pacing of whatever level they're composing for.

I think this is an advantage over songs that exist in a vacuum. Video game music is meant to complement a scene and this gives it a highly evocative quality, and it is a very traditional sort of thing.

Is there anything like drakengard's ost in the nonvideogame world? i've been searching for something. I'm aware it samples a lot from classical music, but it also has that electronic aspect to it.

I think videogames are generally made by people more proficient than the average pop star from ~80s onwards
>>127672502
But videogame scores are made with the intention to fit a specific vibe that is appropriate to whatever is happening on screen, sullying it's "pureness". If videogame music is so good then why isn't it made on it's own? Why is it attached to something other than itself?

Isnt it? Original soundtracks and scores accompany the games they were written for, but often there's other arrangements, concerts and interpretations for those osts that are released and sold as standalone works meant to be listened to on their own.

Well that's what you've restricted it's purpose for. Castlevania is an action/adventure game so the energetic music still fits the bill

Classical music literally has this but the meme decides it's not that because.... it's art..... even though that's what vgm would be qualified as art too.
